Shell Completions

Completions are not cosmetic. They are one of the easiest ways to make a large CLI feel learnable.

Riot’s command surface is broad enough that tab completion pays for itself quickly:

• subcommands are easier to discover
• flags are easier to remember
• repeated workflows are faster to execute

Installing completions

Use the completions installer:

riot completions install

From there, the exact shell behavior depends on your environment, but the outcome should be the same:

• command names complete
• subcommands complete
• common flags complete

Why this matters more over time

The longer someone uses Riot, the more they benefit from completions.

During the first day, completions are helpful. During the hundredth day, completions are part of muscle memory.

That is why they belong in the docs. They are part of what turns Riot from “a tool I can use” into “a tool I can use fluidly.”
